definitely in a red-orange/blue-green mood recently (see my last post!)
I've been working in this little spiral bound book for a change that somebody sent me ages ago and I haven't used until now. I really should make an effort to fill the various little books and journals friends have sent me over the years rather than buying new ones.
By the way, my first article (written by me!) appears in the current issue of Somerset Life magazine - about my journaling!
If I had a cute little blue VW van I'd go camping somewhere and hang up my laundry too. But I don't, so I'll just have to make pincushions!
My current blue/green color obsession lives on..!

I am looking for big, bold, flower themed art for the summer issue of Erraticus Zine. If you have an image you would like to submit to the gallery, please email it to me at mmhubbell at earthlink . net. If you have an article or how to you'd like to submit, that would be great too! (unfortunately I cannot give complimentary copies of the zine to gallery artists, but anyone who has an article or how-to published will get one!) I will need hi res (300 dpi) images for print but you can send me a low res one for submission if you prefer, or email me with a link to your online gallery where I can see or download the image.
This image is from the cover of Fabric Jewelry by Teresa Searle - isn't it great?

Finally nearing the end (but will it ever end, really?) of my Studio Spring Clean - and (the payoff!) - finally starting to feel the inspirational juices flowing from all the pretty, colorful bits and pieces I've been unearthing and surrounding myself with.
I've had these rustic hangers for a while, and yesterday I finally realized my vision of making them into "bird perches" - or swings. I'm really smitten with this one and I think I'll keep it for myself to hang in my studio amidst all the other pink, orange, red stuff (click on the picture to see more recent studio pics on my Flickr!)
I'm working on others and will put them up in my Etsy shop next week!
...in my studio
finally, finally did a spring clean up and it is sooo much nicer to come in here in the mornings!
I just added a bunch of new things to my etsy shop:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=83
Beautiful springtime sheets of Victorian scraps - flowers, roses, letters ad doves. Two more original mixed media bird collages. A tiny wreath I made of vintage wallpapers cut into butterfly shapes. And some fun old bird dominoes!
Go visit my shop and check it all out!
Here's another collage I did this last weekend. The big old apple tree outside my studio window is in bloom - I think it's definitely having an influence on me!
I love this bit of scalloped edging at the bottom. I forget where I got it but I think it was cut off of something, somewhere along the line, and I wonder what? It seems to be that slightly textured medium weight cotton (what's that called? pique?) that I used to have clothes - blouses and stuff - made from when I was a little kid. Or maybe it was cut from a table runner? I wonder..
That's the problem with using all this old vintage stuff - you can't help but wonder what lives these bits and pieces have lived before! What rooms would have had the wallpaper pattern I cut these flower and leaf shapes from? What little child had this bird book? Did anyone ever play that particular bit of sheet music??
They (the previous owners of these things) would probably think I was mad to put them all together like this!
Isn't this pretty? I've been on a creative binge recently and this is just one of the many things I've come up with. Click on the image to go see more on Flickr!
Please stop by my Etsy Shop tomorrow to see more!

I am thrilled that my Cabinet Card Household Signs were featured in the spring issue of Somerset Life Magazine! They are made from actual antique cabinet cards, paint, paper and fabric trim and hang from ribbons or miniature French doll's hangers.
I am offering these for sale in my Etsy shop: melissam.etsy.com
I will also be happy to create custom cards bearing whatever message your household needs!
The new zine will be printing this week! If you'd like to purchase one go to my Etsy shop: melissam.etsy.com
Winter ended with a bad week and a bad day here in the Hubbell household. Here is to a fresh start and better days ahead for all.
Thank you everyone for your kind words about Max.. I really appreciate it.
Maxie died today.. We are all very sad but it was his time. He was not doing well at all.
He had such beautiful eyes and the vet jut called asking if we'd be willing to donate his corneas for another cat there who needs a cornea transplant. So, I suppose that's a positive thing..
We'll miss you sweet Maxie..
